General Discussion / Funny 'taste' in mouth
« on: May 15, 2012, 07:11:01 AM »
Has anyone else suffered from this?  The past week or so I have a funny 'taste' or 'sensation' in my mouth. At first I thought it was bad breath, but no-one has complained.  It feels like I should have a peppermint or brush my teeth, but that doesn't really help (the teeth brushing, I don't have the peppermint).

hi elizabeth779 - congratulations on your loss YAYAYAYAYAY :D.  I find people are a wonderful and varied lot who will do many a whacky thing to lose weight except give up something that may actually cause them harm.  Whenever anyone even mentions low carb they all seem to say it's bad for you.  You can't give up whole food groups. You have to live, blah blah blah.  It all makes sense once you read the FTS book  - it's so simple; but because it is so simple, people look at you in disbelief.  You'll be building a trohphy case soon to store all your trophies  :D

My low carb stockist stocks products by LC Foods - milk (powder) that has 0 carbs, sweetened condensed milk(pdr) 0 carbs, flour (1/4 cup) 1.5c, Ice-cream (pdr) .4c.   Has anyone heard about this company? Is it true and any good?

No umpa - it's in a small pocket book called Allan Borushek's Calorie Fat and Carbohydrate Counter.  It lists eggs - med 0.1, lge and jumbo 0, egg yolk lge 0, egg white lge 0.1  which all seemed rather low when compared to what was on various egg cartons/online.

General Discussion / A Minor Rant Against 'Supportive' Friends
« on: May 08, 2012, 07:47:20 PM »
One of my best friends (who is only mildly overweight, but who states she would die on no carbs - her main diet is bread, cakes lollies, vegetables, little meat, even less cheese and lots milkshakes).  We were sitting having a coffee when she asked how long this phase was going to last because it will get a bit boring sitting with someone who was not going to be sharing cakes and what if we go away - I would have troubling finding food and resisting sweets if, say,  we went on a cruise.  Yes this was one of the things I had enjoyed doing - going out for coffee and cake (money being short and this being affordable).  I explained that we could still go out for coffee (I always have herbal teabags in my purse if they don't make vienna coffees) and that if we went on another cruise there were heaps of things I could eat, but yes I would have to stay away from most of the desserts (they look much better than they taste anyway).   I was not expecting her to follow my eating plan but that she referred to it a 'phase' and I felt she implied it was an inconvenience to her enjoyment. I also resent her telling everyone I meet that I am doing low carb  - she is a private person who does not want anyone knowing her private doings, but apparently feels okay to tell all and sundry mine.  I'm usually an easy going person 'live and let live' but honestly I  was irritated to say the least.  What is it with blunt people?

Hi umpa - I tried the OMM with just the white, it had less of the 'eggy' smell but didn't seem to rise as high as the first time I made it.  The carb count to eggs is driving me batty - different books, egg cartons and different places online vary the egg count from 0.1 (small) to 1.4 (lge).  I have averaged it out to 0.5 - is this okay?  The book I have states that the yolk is the part without carbs - is this wrong then?

Product Reviews / Re: WF Miracle Mayo
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:07:14 AM »
Just tried this tonight and debating whether to toss it in the bin tonight or offer it to my friend when she drops in.  It has zero everything  including a zero rating from me.  It wasn't to my taste.  I even tried mixing it with my normal mayo (Best Foods) and some mustard to go with my dinner tonight. It was okay but I really don't think I want to eat it.  It has that certain 'bite' (tang) to it but not the creaminess of real mayo.   :(

General Discussion / Re: Week 2 - Shoot the Scales
« on: May 07, 2012, 07:31:06 PM »
SherriPie - I think it's when guys hop on they think muscle not fat. I would think very few guys hop on and and say OMG i've put on a lb.  I think teenage males must metabolise food way quicker.  My daughter's boyfriend seems to be at the point of anorexia at times even though  he seems to consume enough food to down a sumo wrestler. I'd like to say karma will get back at him when he gets older, but I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Did you never get the urge to just keep hopping on to see if you'd lost weight?  Now that you are at your goal, do you still break out the scales to see?  Do you believe what you see?  Has the reality sunk in?  I'm still in awe  :)

General Discussion / High Blood Pressure
« on: May 07, 2012, 07:14:12 PM »
I have suffered from high blood pressure for years (it runs in the family fat or skinny) and have been taking meds for approx half my life.  The past few years even with medication it has run at the higher range and sometimes a bit over of normal.  I randomly check it at home just to keep tabs.  Last night when I checked I couldn't believe the results, they were on the lower range (normal).  I hadn't had  readings like those ever.  I haven't lost any significant weight that would account for the change.  The only difference has been the FTS way of eating.  I don't have blood sugar or cholesterol problems (at this stage and hope not to).  I will be checking the BP more often to see if this was a fluke or is going to be consistent.  I'm hoping of course for the 'consistent'.  Has anyone else found that their Bp has  dropped without significant weight change?
