General Discussion / Re: Eat Fats, Cut Carbs to Reclaim Your Skinny Self
« on: January 03, 2019, 03:06:47 PM »
Hi, RonaldHare!  :)

Eating foods high in calcium and vitamin D are a good choice to start. But the net carb count of ANYTHING we eat makes a BIG difference in weight loss results. That must be taken into account BEFORE we place the food choice in our mouths.

Bananas are NOT a good choice for the FTS low-carb lifestyle during weight loss toward goal weight. During this time, we STRICTLY limit ourselves to 20 net carb grams per day. Some people find they need to eat a few less than that to see progress. Some may do well with a FEW more.

So you know, ONLY ONE medium banana has about 24 net carb grams. And two of them would about FORTY-EIGHT GRAMS! That's more than TWO DAYS' net carb allowance!

After we reach goal weight, we may find that we can eat an occasional banana without major impact. But until then, it is NOT advised for successful weight loss.

Cauliflower leaves are VERY tasty!
They're great for making stuffed "cabbage" leaves.

Most of the time, my grocer (or their supplier) trims off the greens before sale.
But I keep my eye out in case some "slip by".  ;)

So happy terribly demanding times are behind you, Doug!  :)

I agree with Morgan. The new format is really nice. But it does present a bit of a learning curve to adjust. But that's just how change works.

Be well and hope to hear from you more often!

Hi, Diamonddaddy.

When the GG Bran folks are out of stock, I use Amazon.
In fact, I'll check Amazon anyway since I can often find them cheaper there that at GG Bran.

There are a number of ordering alternatives on the Amazon webpage.
I found several in stock, depending on the quantity you want.
Did you check them all?

Hi, Diamonddaddy,

Although the home website is often out of stock, GG Crispbread crackers can be found on Amazon. Here's a link to a search for  "GG Scandinavian Fiber Crispbread";

Hi, Donald!

Avocado has been staple in my home for years.
Absolutely love it and its versatility, not to mention great potassium source. :)

Hello, wasaw247!  :)

As I replied to another one of your comments that had this link, the list in it represents only a VERY small list of all the veggies we may eat on the FTS low-carb lifestyle.

The key is net carb counts, portion sizes, and volume of food eaten throughout each day. And finding the right amounts for our individual bodies.

I REALLY hope you are not seeking click-counts on that link.
If so, we consider it spam and would have to ban you from this forum.

Hi, wasaw247!  :)

Thanks for the list.

But the number of veggies presented in this article is only a fraction of those we eat in the FTS low-carb lifestyle.

Doug's book, "FAT to Skinny Fast and Easy" has a MUCH larger list. And even it does not list all the veggies we can eat. The key is the net carb count, portion size, and volume of food we eat throughout the day.

So you know, I'm 66 years old and in great health thanks to FAT To Skinny (FTS).
When I started living the FTS lifestyle back in August 2010, I weighed 317 lbs. and was VERY unhealthy. My doctor told me I probably won't last 5 more years if something doesn't' change. So I started my FTS journey.

================================================================

After about 6 months, I lost about 50 lbs. and my doc took me off diabetes meds. As well as some to control my elevated triglycerides and cholesterol.

After a year, I lost the remaining 50 lbs. and have never felt better in my life.
Within one year, I lost 100 pounds, and have never felt better (with the exception of a little joint pain from time to time, but nothing really bad).

So yes, living low-carb REALLY does!
There is solid science behind it.

If you have any other questions, please let us know.

Have a great day!  :)

Hi, Morgan! I'm very happy to hear that you are doing so well.  :) :) :)

Regarding your motivation toward exercise...

You have to set realistic goals for yourself if you expect to have long term positive results.
The first goals should be small and easy to achieve. Make the first one something like 5 minutes on the treadmill at a lower speed. Then, increase slowly from there. As your success record grows, so will your motivation to continue. If you make exercise part of your lifestyle, like FTS, there will be no need to obsess over it. Just enjoy it.  :)

Me, like you, I continue to live the FTS lifestyle but so not obsess over it. I am still close to goal weight. I weigh in once in a while. When I notice the scale creeping upward, I reduce my carb-count and food volume for a time until the extra weight comes off. This has been working great for me.

Hi, Susie.

I really hope the blood test is comprehensive enough to uncover the cause of your inflammation.

Sadly since Big Pharma has its greedy paws all over medical science (especially medical research), it can be very challenging finding a doctor that looks beyond the symptom (cholesterol blockage in arteries which is treated with dangerous statin drugs) to the root cause of the inflammation.

I will continue to pray for you. And I pray that your doctors find the wisdom to find the root cause of your arterial inflammation.

Morgan is absolutely correct when she said "Cholesterol numbers are only an indicator not a certainty.", Susie.

We know that inflammation (and not cholesterol) is the cause of arterial blockages.
Arterial inflammation makes arterial linings "sticky" and prone to blockage.
So the key here is your docs figuring out what is causing that inflammation.

It just occurs to me that you may have an allergy to something that's causing inflammation.
Perhaps that's worth bringing up the next time you see your doctor.
