Sides and Snacks / Re: Broccoli Salad
« on: November 01, 2012, 10:02:43 AM »
I thought about sunflower seeds Umpa, but I didn't have any around. I had some almonds in the freezer, but I didn't want to throw them in whole. Can you slice almonds?

We needed a salad for a pot luck supper.

Cut up a head of broccoli
add a cup of Dukes Mayo
20 drops of Zero
2 tbls. of vinegar
Half a pound of fried bacon cut up
Half cup of shredded parmesan

Mix it up the night before and let sit in the fridge.

I could've ate it all myself.

Sides and Snacks / Re: Turnip Gratin

I'm going to try this, because it looks great, and I have never eaten a turnip that I liked. I still remember that dirty trick gramma pulled on us as kids. They sure looked like boiled potatoes.

When you guys make this, do you use that kind of cheese all the time? I don't think I've ever noticed it in the store.

Sides and Snacks / Pumpkin fries
« on: September 24, 2012, 08:59:20 PM »
This isn't much of a recipe. I planted blue pumpkins in the garden this year, and they turned out to be quite prolific. I cut one open, and they are as orange as can be inside. They smell a lot like a muskmelon. I gutted one, quartered it and skinned it out and shoved it through my vintage vegomatic. Fried those babies up and sprinkled a little Tony Chachere's on them, and this is heaven! Tastes like spicy sweet potato fries! I'm going to like this fall.

Good job Emmitt! It's easy to eat out and stay on the program, isn't it?

Ask Umpa / Re: binder for meat loaf?
« on: August 21, 2012, 03:26:24 PM »
I make a meat loaf like that Doug! I use half breakfast sausage and half ground beef. Mix them together, roll out flat, spread cream cheese, jalapenos and mushrooms and shredded cheddar on the meat, then roll up like a jelly roll and wrap with the bacon weave. Throw it in the smoker.  I don't use any other fillers.

General Discussion / Re: Question about ICED Coffee
« on: August 15, 2012, 10:23:50 PM »
I've never tried iced coffee. I drink lots of hot coffee, so it might be good. I'll have to try it. Is it just cold coffee, cream and zero?

Also, why does coffee not count towards your water total? I thought the current thinking was that all liquids hydrate your body?

I think the biggest difference between fts and atkins is that atkins wants you to push to find your carb weight gain threshold after you lose your weight, whereas fts lets to stay on the same plan you've learned to love without a gamble. I don't care how many carbs I can possibly eat without gaining. I like eating around 20 and enjoying it.

I've heard it can slow things down, but it seems like it happens to gals more than guys. It never affected me at all.

Emmit,

Go to the home page, hit search and type in pancakes. Jenny's better than boxed are excellent, and the cream cheese one is too. You'll never get bored eating from this site!

You don't eat any sugar. You get your carbs from vegetables.

hi Southern Belle

When you eat low carb, you don't want to eat low fat too. I eat whole eggs and regular cheese. That is where your calories will come from instead of carbs, from protein and fats. As long as you have enough protein and fat in your diet, your body won't consume its' muscle. Most low fat foods,(like low fat cheese, skim milk, etc.) have more carbs than the natural full fat versions. If you are only cutting yourself back to 50 carbs a day, you probably won't go through detox, and won't get your body into fat burning ketosis mode.
