General Discussion / Blood Sugar and Brain Health
« on: September 04, 2012, 12:35:17 PM »
We already know how harmful sugar can be on the body - but this recent study finding that even blood sugar in the normal ranges can affect brain health - possibly leading to dementia.  Sorry if this has already been posted

Doug,

I made 3 changes:  (1) I did the hunger test before eating just because it was breakfast time, etc. (2) I cut out certain sugar alcohols - I noticed my weight loss stalled when I bought these Atkins low carb bars - I was replacing quite a few meals with them, and (3) I cut out almost all alcohol.  I was adding back in some vodka diet tonic drinks and I noticed it slowed my weight down.

I will attempt to add these things back in slowly once I hit my goal, but in the meantime....

I made some adjustments and am down 4.8 pounds this week for a total of 42 pounds in 12 weeks.  Thanks everyone for your support.  Oh, and now I guess I am no longer considered obese by BMI standards and just overweight for whatever that is worth.

Congratulations!  That is great

Thanks Umpa, Andrea and Tony.  I will keep at it...just take it day by day and increase my knowledge as I go.

2.4 pound weight gain this week.  Kept carb count low, but too many calories, sugar alcohol and I even had a couple stiff drinks.  I was eating atkins bars for breakfast and lunch all this week.  Not good for me.  Anyway, back to the basics re-reading the book.  Also going to start reporting weight loss through those tickers instead of weekly reports.  The program works better than anything I have ever been on, but you can't just count carbs...have to look at everything and how your own body reacts to things.

Umpa - what is a ticker and how do I go about getting one?   Also, what do you think about reporting my weight loss this way (Updates weekly..."end of 10th week weighin, etc.)?  I only started reporting this way because it would be easy for someone considering starting this diet to easily review my progress over the weeks to see my success.  My goal was to report this way until I lost my 75 pound goal.  But, I also don't want to clog up with all my emails.

Lost 1.8 pounds this week...down 39.6 pounds.  I think I can do much better - need to start better tracking all my calories including sugar alcohol.
