General Discussion / Change at the gate.....
« on: September 28, 2011, 09:32:25 PM »
Today makes 6 weeks that I've been walking 2 miles a day.  This is SO out of character for me because I've always hated to exercise.  Also, for years I've had trouble with annoying back pain.  I've always thought it was due to my weight, but my chiropractor told me, "There's lots of 300 lb football players who don't have back pain."  (Yeah, like THAT was suppose to make me feel better. ha ha)  However, I really think that my weight loss so far along with the walking is really helping my back!  I go to the track at 6am, and I really LOVE the quiet time by myself.  Our local college track is 1/4th mile around and it has 8 lanes.  As I go in the gate each morning, I start on the 8th lane and change to the next lane down each time I get back to the gate. (It's the only way I can keep up with my laps.)  When I finish lap #1, I know I've walked 2  miles.

One morning, I had tons on my mind, and I forgot to change lanes.   I mentally reminded myself "change at the gate, change at the gate!"  We have just finished a study series on Heaven at my church.  I guess the good Lord just reminded me that we really WILL "change at Heaven's gate"!   Kfaith, we will have NO MORE BACK PAIN there!  No more weight problems either! Everything will be PERFECT there!   I got so happy out there on the track thinking about what's in store for us, that I just had to raise my hands to the sky and thank my Heavenly Father!  After all, I couldn't have lost ANY of this weight unless He had helped me! So......now every time I get back to the gate at the track, I change lanes, lift both hands in the air, and whisper "Thank you Jesus!"     Even when there's other folks there, I don't even wonder what they think anymore.    I'm sure to them I just look like some fat chick fantasizing about winning some marathon. ha ha   However, in my heart I am really just thankful because I know that I will......change at the gate.

Love & hugs to all of you my FTS family!!!!

General Discussion / Finding FTS friendly products
« on: September 18, 2011, 10:20:55 AM »
A new store opened up here in town a few months ago called "Good Nutrition".  I have been buying my Xylitol there.  Just recently they started carrying the Now brand unblanched almond flour too.  If that didn't make me happy enough, yesterday I was at my local "Dollar General" store, and found a box of Stevia 35 single serve packets for just a dollar!  :D  I'll keep some of these in my purse to use in my tea when we go out.

Also, I LOVE it that Publix carries all the Walden Farms products & the LaTortilla Factory low carb wraps.  I got a pack of the garlic & herb wraps yesterday.  Last night I used them to make the pinwheels with cream cheese & deli sliced roasted turkey.  I had heard several of you mention the pinwheels, but I had never tried them until now.  What a GREAT little snack!!   ;)

General Discussion / September 10th
« on: September 10, 2011, 01:47:20 AM »
Well as of today I have been living the FTS lifestyle for one year!  I just want to say THANK YOU to Doug, Umpa, and all of my FTS family for one of the best years of my life!  Though I did lose a few pounds counting calories before I started FTS, my total loss is 92 pounds so far.   Just a few of the highlights of this past year were:

flying on an airplane again
swimming in Lake Lanier
walking 2 miles and enjoying it
lifting my hands in praise while standing on the scales (my favorite)
blue jeans without an elastic waist, sleeveless Summer shirts & a little black dress
the look on my doctor's face
the best hugs (cause folks can reach ALL the way around me now  ;D)
knowing that my family is SO proud of me

I am ready to start my 2nd year with a renewed excitement!  I am SO thankful.  Life is good and getting better every day!!  Hugs to all of you!!!

General Discussion / We can do this!
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:27:25 PM »
Today I heard a song I hadn't heard in a while.  The song is "The Voice of Truth" by a band called "Casting Crowns".  Google it and listen to this song!  I love it!!   I really relate this song to my long battle with my weight problems.  I know several of us here have shared about how people have made fun of us due to our weight.  I would start a "diet", fall off the wagon, and end up just getting fatter every time.

I am SO thankful for FTS and to now FINALLY be stepping out of the "boat I'm in", and trusting that God will continue to bless my efforts.  I've copied the lyrics to this song below....but it's better to listen to it!  Makes me want to keep on keeping on !!    Love my FTS family!!!!

Oh,what I would do to have
the kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
Onto the crashing waves
To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown
Where Jesus is,
And he's holding out his hand

But the waves are calling out my name
and they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
time and time again
"Boy, you'll never win,
You you'll never win

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the Voice of truth says "this is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

Oh, what I would do
to have the kind of strength it takes
To stand before a giant
with just a sling and a stone
Surrounded by the sound
of a thousand warriors
shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out
my name and he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
time and time again
"Boy you'll never win,
you'll never win."

But the voice of truth tells me a different story
the Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
and the Voice of truth says "this is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

But the stone was just the right size
to put the giant on the ground
and the waves they don't seem so high
from on top of them looking down
I will soar with the wings of eagles
when I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
singing over me

But the Voice of truth tells me a different story
The Voice of truth says "do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of truth says "this is for my glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me (calling out to me)
I will choose to listen and believe (I will choose to listen and believe)
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the Voice of truth
I will listen and believe
'Cause Jesus you are the Voice of truth
And I will listen to you.. oh you are the Voice of truth

General Discussion / Gumption
« on: July 31, 2011, 04:08:59 PM »
I hadn't heard this word in so long.  My dad used to say it when I was a kid like "Do you have any gumption?"  I just thought it was something he made up. ha ha  Well today our pastor used this word in his sermon.  Just wanted to share this because it relates to FTS too!   Definition:  "Gumption is the character to commit & complete."  He said the bridge between commit & complete is CONSISTENCY.   ;)

My thought for the day.....I want to be a person with GUMPTION!   ;D

General Discussion / Yummy breakfast
« on: July 23, 2011, 01:21:50 PM »
After being on FTS 10 months, I FINALLY tried the one minute muffin today...OMG!  Wow, now I totally understand what all the fuss is about!  I made mine with a little cinnamon & vanilla flavoring. Sliced it open & dropped it in the toaster.  Then topped it off with cream cheese.  Makes me want to jump back on the recipe exchange and try a bunch of other things!!   Found my new favorite breakfast!!!   ;D

Product Reviews / Emerald Cocoa Roast Almonds
« on: June 20, 2011, 10:43:00 AM »
Ok, so I finally tried a couple of the Cocoa Roast Almonds at a friends house, and they are great!   Excited to find a new low carb snack, I went to Sam's Warehouse and bought the HUGE container of them.  Here's where the weird thing happens..... All weekend I felt like I was battling a virus or possibly inner ear.  I have been VERY dizzy & nauseated.  This morning I was feeling fine.  I came into work grabbed a diet coke & a handful of my almonds.  Now, I am dizzy and sick again.  I did a quick search online and found that others have had this same reaction to these.  Apparently I may be allergic to the dark cocoa powder on these nuts!  :-\  Anyone else ever experienced this?

I went for my 6 month check up with my internist this morning.  The weigh in was FUN!  ;D  I had lost 30 lbs since my last visit in December, and as of today....he took me OFF my blood pressure medication!  I had been taking Dyazide for hypertension and edema for many years.  He asked me to watch my salt intake and come back in 3 weeks for a bp re-check.  Even one of the nurses asked me "What are you doing to lose all this weight?"  ;D  Made me want to "kick it up a little" and be down a few more pounds when I go back in 3 weeks!  ;)   Thank you FTS!!!  :-*

Gotta love them!  ha ha  Just had to share.....  Thank you FTS!!  Looking forward to the next 25 years!!   ;D

General Discussion / Dinner tonight...
« on: April 16, 2011, 09:27:09 PM »
My husband and I had dinner tonight at Ruby Tuesdays.  I knew they had mashed cauliflower on the menu, but I was happy to see that they now have grilled zucchini, spaghetti squash, asparagus, and steamed broccoli as sides.  Eating out seems to get easier all the time!  Never thought I'd see the day I would get excited over veggie choices!  lol

General Discussion / Back to the basics experiment...
« on: April 10, 2011, 11:20:02 AM »
My weight loss had slowed WAY down.  On April 1st I decided to go back to the basics of FTS.  So this week I cut my portions in half, only ate when I was hungry, left off the SF Russell stovers candy, and stopped the BIG servings of whipped cream.    As of this morning I am down 3 more pounds!  I am excited all over again like I was when I first started FTS!!   Doug definitely KNOWS what he's talking about.

Thanks to Sherripie for the encouragement this week!!  ;)

General Discussion / Family members on board!!

I asked my brother's wife if I could share this, and I'm hoping she will join the forum with us soon....

In October she started doing FTS, but admits she hasn't followed it strictly.  I could tell she had lost some weight, but tonight she told me she has lost FORTY pounds on FTS! :o  Over the past year she had already lost 20 pounds by just cutting down, so she has now lost a total of 60 pounds in a year!

Also, my brother (her husband) said he started FTS this past Monday!  The way men lose, I am anxious to see how much he drops the first week!  While I was at their home tonight, they brought out the chocolate Carbsmart icecream, and we all had a little treat!  ;D  I am so excited for them!
